By Bryan Boggiano

Diners looking for a taste of traditional Italian cuisine may soon have another option to choose from.

Divieto Ristorante has offered to open a new location in Coral Springs at 2729 North University Drive, according to city records. The restaurant has three locations in Aventura, Doral and Estero.

The site is Applebee’s former location, which closed in February due to financial difficulties resulting from the pandemic.

Divieto, which means “ban” in Italian, has an atmosphere reminiscent of 1920s New York. This includes decorations that model the fashion and air of the day, according to the company’s website.

They offer more than 70 Italian dishes, including various antipasti, soups, salads, pizzas, pasta dishes, meats and desserts, all made from local ingredients. Their signature dish is the Ruota di Parmigiano, a fettuccine-Afredo dish tossed in a wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. Divieto also has an extensive liquor menu, including wines, beers, and cocktails, according to their website.
