The controversy over the policy prompted a response from a spokesman for Rishi Sunak, who is vying to be the UK’s next prime minister.

“The only thing that should matter in recruiting is your character content, not your gender or the color of your skin,” the spokesperson said in a media statement. “That the Ministry of Defense is allowing Britain’s security to be potentially endangered by a campaign for so-called ‘diversity’ is not only shameful, it is dangerous.”

Fox News has contacted the RAF for clarification on the matter, as sources have given conflicting answers about the existence of the diversity policy.

The RAF says it recognizes the value of a person’s ability, “regardless of their ethnic origin, religious beliefs, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability or socio-economic background”.
