A British father-of-four is fighting for his life in a coma after he was stabbed in a ‘random attack’ on a stag party in Portugal.
Joel Collins was stabbed three times while in Albuferia in the Algarve, according to reports. He was taken to a hospital in Faro after a member of the public saw him on the street suffering from his injuries.
Her sister Heidi Collins said her brother suffered deep stomach injuries including cuts to the pancreas, lungs, intentions and stomach.
He is now in intensive care after five different operations, she said. She said the family “just take it day to day now.”
Mr Collins is believed to have been the target of a random attack as he returned home on July 4 after being separated from his friends overnight.
Ms Collins said nurses believed her brother might have been stabbed in an assault, as he arrived at hospital without his phone or ID.
His last memory of the night was apparently parting ways with his friends and using his phone to find his way back to his hotel on Google Maps.
“Doctors told mum and dad he had been taken to hospital by ambulance,” Ms Collins said. “He was found by a member of the public.”
“People have to be extra vigilant when they are in the station. It seems that the police do nothing about it. These crimes are continuing and no one is aware of them,” she said.
Another Briton was stabbed three times in the same town at a bachelor party two months ago.
Alex Evans posted his support for Joel and his family on social media, saying: “On May 15th this year I was stabbed three times and left for dead at a bachelor party in Abuferia.
“While I was slowly recovering I was informed that it was happening again to Joel Collins. It is heartbreaking to hear as his story is very similar and my thoughts are with his family and I hope he recovers quickly.
“After speaking to his family, I want to put this out to raise awareness about the knife crime taking place in Albufeira, as it is not made public, and to urge people to stick together.”
