Featuring string and piano virtuosos and chamber music stars in concert at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center and Saint James Place in Great Barrington Fall, Winter, Spring 2021-2022
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. Entering its 30th year of presenting exceptional chamber music with lively commentary, Close Encounters With Music presents a season that sizzles and sparkles with the widest range of genres, styles, composers and instruments – and of course , the great performers who share their brilliant artistry. Upcoming invited participants include the newest Van Cliburn Competition Gold
Victim of COVID, Tamar Muskal’s new work for two cellos, rapper, tabla drum and children’s choir will not be presented because unvaccinated children cannot enter concert halls. Originally hired to take part in the world premiere of Muskal, Christylez Bacon’s cameo appearance is a reminder of the restrictions still imposed and a promise that the new work will be scheduled as soon as conditions permit.
Close Encounters is supporting the rebirth of the Southern Berkshires by presenting six concerts this season at the famous Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center. Located in the heart of historic Great Barrington, the Mahaiwe offers modern comfort in the nostalgic atmosphere of a century-old theater. A seventh performance takes place on the superb acoustic Saint James Square.
