Louisville, KY – Kiss a kitten, you’ll feel better.
In addition, it is a fairly solid economic model.
Cat cafes have been around since the 1990s and have taken off in recent years across the country, with several different locations scattered throughout the Louisville area. Each cafe has a separate chat room and coffee area, so you can grab a coffee or snack before or after visiting a fuzzy friend. In these coffee and cuddle concepts, customers can set aside time to spend in a room full of cats and kittens.
The best part? They are all adoptable.
More cats than usual were adopted in 2020 due to the pandemic. Chuck Patton, “purrprietor” of the Purrfect Day Cat Cafe, 1741 Bardstown Road, said some months of the past year adoptions had increased by 75 to 100 percent. Purrfect Day adopted 1,859 cats in 2020.
“I think part of the popularity is a reflection of society today, especially young people,” Patton said. “You can’t just have a dinner party and a movie, you have to experience more. Like I could go eat anywhere, but wouldn’t it be cool to see all those cat drinks and cat games? exaggerated words and seeing cats? I think that’s more what we’re trying to do: attract people who want something different, and right now we want to do something fun.
If that’s your idea of fun, here’s a look at some places you can go snuggle with kittens in Louisville – and maybe even find a fuzzy new family member.
