Mercedes driver george russell is looking to make quick progress at this afternoon’s British Grand Prix with the Silver Arrows driver slightly out of position in P8.
The Briton has had a good season so far but admitted he made a mistake on his last run in Q3 which meant he could only set the eighth fastest time.
Indeed, it is slightly behind where it should receive Lewis Hamilton’s other Mercedes is just behind the two Red Bull and Ferrari cars in the top five, but that means Russell should feel like he can make early passes to join the fight. .
Speaking to the press here at Silverstone after the session, Russell admitted he made a costly little mistake:
“I wouldn’t say he missed an opportunity, but he definitely underperformed where the car could have been.
“I just lost my confidence and then the last lap I made a mistake, we had the speed to be P4 or P5 but let’s see [on Sunday.] We know that qualifications are a bit of our weak point. »
He continued to say, however, that the car in race configuration is generally faster, and that should give him an advantage in his recovery:
“I think we definitely have a faster race car than a qualifying car and we’ve closed the gap so I just hope I can pass Alonso and Lando because I think we have half a chance. before.”
Russell may well believe that a podium could be achieved if he can progress quickly and settle into a rhythm, but time will tell if that is what happens.
