Joplin Health Department Food Inspections (October 25) | Local News

The Joplin Globe publishes summaries of routine and follow-up inspections performed by the Joplin Health Department. The companies inspected pass or fail depending on the violations found at the time of the inspection. These violations fall into two categories:

• Priority violations are more serious and relate to improper handling, storage and preparation of food. The Globe lists the number and summary of each violation.

• Basic violations are less serious and relate to equipment, maintenance and general cleanliness. The Globe only publishes the number.

A failed inspection can result in various corrections depending on the types of violations found. Full copies of each report are available from the Joplin Health Department.

Sam’s southern restaurant, 1218 W. Seventh St. Fast food. Routine inspection performed on October 15th. Results: FAILED with 11 priority violations and 20 basic violations.

• There is no designated official available at the time of the inspection.

• The employee observed that he did not wash his hands before preparing food in the kitchen.

• Unapproved employee drinks in the kitchen.

• Bulging oyster container in the cold room (corrected during inspection).

• A food worker observed handling ready-to-eat chicken strips with his bare hands.

• The fish in the three compartment sink was in contact with surfaces that had not been previously sanitized (corrected during inspection).

• Tomatoes, lettuce and beef patties in the preparation table kept cold above 41 degrees.

• Several potentially dangerous foods in the cold room kept cold above 41 degrees.

• No air gap provided on the three compartment sink pipe.

• Mouse droppings in the crockery area and other dry storage areas.

• Medicines in a cold room stored with food.

• Employee drinks stored on the top shelf above the rear food prep table (corrected during inspection).

Frank’s living room, 2112 S. Main St. Bar. Routine inspection performed on October 18. Results: PASS with 0 priority and 0 basic violation.

Salvation Army, 320 E. Eighth Street. Institutional. Routine inspection carried out on October 18. Results: PASS with 2 priority violations and 1 kernel violation.

• Raw eggs stored above the grape juice in a walk-in closet (corrected during inspection).

• Milk has passed its expiration date (corrected during inspection).

Watered gardens, 531 S. Kentucky Ave. Institutional. Routine inspection performed on October 18. Results: PASS with 1 priority violation and 1 basic violation.

• Individual plates in storage are stored on or with dish soap (corrected during inspection).

Japanese restaurant Ichiban Sushi, 2914 E. 32nd St., Suite 109. Full service restaurant. Routine inspection carried out on October 19. Results: PASS with 2 priority violations and 5 main violations.

• Employee drinks located above prep tables and in coolers with food or above food and food preparation surfaces (corrected during inspection).

• Several potentially hazardous foods in the kitchen prep table being kept cold above 41 degrees (corrected during inspection).
