Tournament organizers are confident that a strong international peloton will compete in the 102nd edition of the event at the Millbrook Resort near Queenstown between March 31 and April 3.

However, tournament chairman John Hart said the top players would only come to isolate themselves upon entering New Zealand if they had access to training facilities.

“We have had initial conversations with a number of international players who have indicated that they would be prepared to self-isolate before the tournament if training facilities were available. We are currently working on options with the government on how that will work and we are confident that we will find a positive outcome for all.

“In these difficult times caused by the pandemic, it is extremely gratifying that the tournament sponsors and partners have given us their full support to host the New Zealand Open next year. Some of our international partners, despite everything, will not be able to attend personally, have maintained their financial commitment to the Tournament. “

Players competing in the New Zealand Open will not only fight for this title, with professional players also chasing a potential spot at the British Open played in St Andrews.

For the first time, the New Zealand Open has been included in the British Open qualifying series, with the top three earning a coveted berth in the field for next year’s major tournament.

“Having three places guaranteed for the best New Zealand Open players at the Open is exceptional news, and we believe it will attract more and more international players to Queenstown in March,” said Hart.
