Old Winstead site takes on new life as Whataburger site

Headed to the opening of Whataburger’s Blue Springs location on Monday? The city wants you to know about traffic flow.

The Texas-based chain’s recent openings in the Kansas City area have drawn long lines of shoppers, causing traffic to stretch for blocks. To lessen the impact of this congestion, Blue Springs will have detours in place when the chain opens its last location at 11 a.m. Monday at 905 Missouri 7 Highway.

Closing and detours will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through May 15, as needed. Here’s what to expect:

  • The westbound lane of Northwest South Outer Road will be closed from Missouri 7 west to Northwest Mock Avenue, preventing vehicles from turning from Missouri 7 to Northwest South Outer Road.
  • Westbound traffic on Northwest Mock will not be able to cross Missouri 7. Instead, they will have to turn north on Missouri 7.
  • For those heading to the fast food restaurant, the city asks drivers to use the westbound RD Mize Road. At Northwest 15th Street, they should head north. Once they get to Northwest South Outer Road, they need to head east to get to the Whataburger entrance.

Whataburger pays well for enhanced police and traffic assistance, the city said. People passing through the area should expect heavier than usual traffic.

“We wanted to make sure traffic doesn’t back up on Missouri Highway 7 and that residents and visitors won’t be inconvenienced by the influx of traffic,” Blue Springs Police Chief Bob Muenz said. , in a press release. “We ask vehicles to respect the surrounding neighborhoods and businesses and to respect the detour routes indicated.

The fast food restaurant opens in the former Winstead location, which closed in late 2018.
