It’s Crust’s 10th year in business, and the Cleveland pizzeria plans to donate at least $10,000 to help fulfill a dream for a child with a life-threatening illness.

Owner Michael Griffin said he plans to donate all proceeds on Saturday, September 17 to A Special Wish Northeast Ohio. He said he also plans to match that donation.

The money will be used to help 9-year-old Ava Jarrett and her family get to Disney World.

Ava was diagnosed with leukemia about three years ago. She has been in remission for almost a year.

“I’ve never been this far at a pizza place,” Ava said, as she and her younger brother, Jameson, were invited into the kitchen to design their own specialty pizza to sell at the fundraiser.

“This is the best day of my life,” Jameson said.

Griffin showed the siblings how to make pepperoni pizza from scratch. On Saturday, the pepperonis will be shaped like a smiley.

“You’re helping a family and doing what you love,” Griffin said. “It’s like a win-win.”

Ava’s mother, Emily, said she was grateful for the restaurant’s support.

“It makes you realize that there are still some really good people out there and the world isn’t that bad,” she said.

A year ago, she said it was a difficult time as Ava was nearing the end of her treatment.

“I think it’s going to be a battle and struggles of a lifetime, but he’s a rock star,” Emily said.

The fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 17 at Crust.
