FAYETTEVILLE, Georgia. – Police said a former employee, his mother and some current workers exchanged words and punches at a restaurant in Fayetteville.
It happened at the Checkers restaurant in Fayetteville. Police said officers received a call to 911 regarding a major brawl and were warned that one of the fighters may be armed with a gun.
Police said it was David Reid, 17, of Fayetteville, who started the fight with the first punch thrown. Investigators said he was a former employee of Checkers. Officers said his mother was at the restaurant with him, apparently to confront a worker who was not there. After the punch, police said Reid’s mother prevented the others from ending the fight.
Police said when the fight was no longer in Reid’s direction, his mother began to drive people away from her son by using the straps of her purse around their necks.
Police said investigators would later discover a gun hidden in a storage room at the back of the restaurant.
Current Checkers employee Robert Washington has been charged with this.
Police charged Robert Washington with being a criminal in possession of a gun. Police said this was the second time he had been charged with this. Police said they charged David Reid with simply battery and obstructing an officer. As for his mother, who, according to witnesses, encouraged the brawl, police said they issued a criminal trespass warning that banned her from the Checkers restaurant.
