Vernon will soon have two new drive-thru fast food restaurants.
Popeyes Louisiana Chicken and Triple O’s restaurants are currently under construction and will share a building on 27th Street.
The City of Vernon’s Director of Economic Development and Tourism, John Perrott, shared the news at the October 25 council meeting. While the two fast food chains will be housed in the same building, each restaurant will have its own drive-thru. The buildings are being constructed on a site at 27th Street and 37th Avenue near a Tim Horton’s and Co-op gas station.
“It expands our culinary repertoire,” Perrott said at the meeting.
The two restaurants add to what Perrott said has been a good year for commercial building permits. For the first three quarters of 2021, the City recorded $ 29 million in commercial construction activity.
Much of this activity is due to an $ 11 million expansion at the Okanagan Spring Brewery, which is expected to be completed by spring 2022.
Residential activity has accounted for $ 78 million in building permits so far this year.
Popeyes Louisiana Chicken was founded in New Orleans in 1972 and currently has over 2,000 in the United States. In 2018, the franchise expanded to Canada and the following year it had 200 restaurants across the country.
There is no opening date for the restaurants yet.
