OTTAWA – The Well Grounded Cafe officially opened on Tuesday at 114 N. Elm Street in Ottawa.
The company is owned by Tom Giesken.
“I’ve actually wanted to do it for about 30 years,” Giesken said. “We’ve looked at a few franchises over the years, gone to meetings and the like and it just wasn’t a good time. This opportunity presented itself and it was the right time.
The cafe is located at what Giesken called the county junction on National Route 65 and US 224.
“It’s sort of the main hub and busiest intersection in the county, so it’s a good place to have a cafe,” Giesken said.
The building itself was once an Arco gas station, then a Sinclair gas station, but its history goes back even further.
“It used to be a livery stable for the hotel which is right next door, around the corner. People would come from other places and they would park their horses and strollers here and go to the hotel or one of the other establishments in the city center, ”Giesken said.
The Well Grounded Cafe, as the name suggests, offers coffee of all kinds and more.
“We have a guy who stops and he says, ‘I know you don’t have a Mocha,’ but (I told him) no, we actually have Mocha. He started to hug me and he was so excited because he goes to a lot of cafes and they don’t have mocha but we have a bit of everything, ”said Giesken.
Besides all kinds of coffees, hot and cold, they have “lemonade, hot chocolate, smoothies and other things for people without caffeine,” Giesken said.
Well Grounded Cafe employs 16 people.
“It’s such a great group of kids. My wife took care of the entire rental. She was amazed at the quality of these children, ”said Giesken.
Giesken gives Ottawa its first real coffee.
“It’s a good Christian environment. We want to open it up and make it a place where people can come together and have a social environment. It’s a nice place to relax and enjoy others, ”said Giesken.
Giesken says they hope to expand beyond the first location in Ottawa.
“Maybe our initial goal is to do it in other places and maybe franchise that down the road,” Giesken said.
Well Grounded Cafe is open Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Well Grounded Cafe is now open in Ottawa, at the intersection of US 224 and Ohio 65.
The Well Grounded Cafe opened on Tuesday to large crowds eager to sample their many caffeinated and non-caffeinated drinks.
